The Centre has resumed rural-housing assistance to Odisha after accepting the state’s corrective-action report. However, beneficiaries awaiting a new list may need to wait longer.
Bhubaneswar: In a major relief for rural-housing beneficiaries, the Central Government has resumed the release of funds to Odisha under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G).
The Ministry of Rural Development confirmed the decision through an official Press Information Bureau release dated August 11, 2026. The move could help accelerate pending instalments and the construction of sanctioned houses across Odisha.
Central assistance had earlier been withheld following complaints of irregularities in PMAY-G implementation. Investigations reportedly identified shortcomings in beneficiary selection, construction quality, house inspections, scheme branding and compliance with official guidelines.
The Odisha Government was directed to take corrective and disciplinary action. Its first Action Taken Report was not considered satisfactory, prompting the Centre to withhold subsequent instalments. Funds were resumed after the state submitted a revised report that met the Ministry’s requirements.
However, beneficiaries should not expect every pending payment to arrive immediately. Individual instalments will still depend on sanction status, Aadhaar verification, correct bank details, construction progress, geo-tagged photographs and approval through AwaasSoft.
What About the New Awaas+ List?
The announcement does not include a new Awaas+ beneficiary list. Inclusion in the Awaas+ survey also does not guarantee a PMAY-G house.
Every surveyed household must clear eligibility scrutiny, physical verification, Gram Sabha approval and the priority-list process. A house can be sanctioned only when these requirements are completed, and an allocation target is available.
Beneficiaries with sanctioned but incomplete houses should contact their Gram Panchayat or Block office to check whether an instalment, inspection, photograph or document is pending. Applicants should also avoid agents claiming that they can secure inclusion in the final list.
Official figures show that Odisha received a target of 9,90,914 PMAY-G houses during the last five financial years. Of these, 9,74,121 were sanctioned, 7,94,628 were completed, and 1,79,493 sanctioned houses remained under construction.
The release of funds is an important step, but the next major development will be the publication of verified priority lists and fresh house sanctions.
